Our favourite Christmas adverts over the years
As this year's John Lewis Christmas advert was released today, we had a look back at our favourite adverts over the years. So many have made us laugh, cry or smile - but here's a handful we picked out as our very favourites...
John Lewis - The Long Wait - 2011
It was hard to pick our favourite advert from John Lewis, but The Long Wait tops the list. In this advert, the department store tells the story of a young boy who is waiting for Christmas to come so he can give his parents his present. This was the first ad that really got us talking about their Christmas adverts.
Sainsbury's - Christmas is for Sharing - 2014
This advert, was broadcast in the anniversary year of the outbreak of WW1, was made in partnership with the Royal British Legion. The advert follows the famous story in 1914, an unofficial truce between Allied and German forces on Christmas Day, where they sang carols to each other and shared small gifts.
Marks and Spencer - Mrs Claus - 2016
We loved last year's heartwarming advert from M&S. Whilst this year's advert is growing on us, this pulled on our heartstrings with the young boy's admiration for his sister. Actress Janet McTeer starred as Mrs Claus who delivers a young boy's Christmas wish.
Coca-Cola - Holidays are Coming
This ad has been on nearly every year since the 90s and is a Christmas tradition. The iconic red Coca-Cola truck now visits different parts of the UK during the festive period.
Woolworths - Spectacular Christmas show - 1983
Woolworths adverts get us feeling very nostalgic! This musical spectacular was the first to make a big fanfare whilst selling an impressive amount of products in such a short advert.
Quality Street - Magic Moments - 1994
This 90s Quality Street shows an adorable young boy giving a packet of the classic Christmas confectionery to the lollypop lady, who helped him cross the road throughout the year.
Toys R Us - Magical Place - 1989
This advert was first broadcasted in 1989, but appeared back on our screens again in 2009. The jolly jingle is catchy and nostalgic which is why it appears in the list of our favourites!
The Yellow Pages - Mistletoe - 1992
This adorable advert shows a sweet young boy taking a copy of the famous Yellow Pages book and using it as a step to kiss a girl under the mistletoe. This offering is short and sweet.
