Oscar winner Gary Oldman: This is what my mum dreamed about

Gary Oldman has told Good Morning Britain winning an Oscar is what his mother always "dreamed about" after he was named Best Actor at the ceremony.

Oldman, who won the Oscar for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, said he had yet to speak to his 98-year-old mother after coming away with the top prize, but that he would "see her in the morning and we'll sit and have a cup of tea".

The Oscar winner thanked his mother during his acceptance speech saying she was "older than the Oscar".

“She is 99 years young next birthday, and watching on her sofa. I say thank you for your love and support. Put your kettle on - I'm bringing Oscar home," he said smiling.

Speaking to Ross King on the red carpet after the awards, Oldman stressed how his mother's support and acceptance of his career was the reason why he was able to go on to win a coveted Oscar.

"When I said that I wanted to become an actor she said, 'OK' ... I got a grant and I followed this career, and she's always been incredibly supportive of me, so this has made her ... I mean this is what she dreamed about," he added.
