Oscar Pistorius trial - the story so far
Paralympic track superstar Oscar Pistorius will begin a three day sentence hearing today after he was convicted for his part in the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
Pistorius was cleared of the 29-year-old's murder but Judge Thokozile Masipa found him guilty of manslaughter - or culpable homicide as it is called in South Africa - in Pretoria last month.
Reeva died when she was shot four times in a bathroom at Pistorius' luxury home on Valentine's Day 2013. The model and law graduate was killed almost instantly after she was hit in the head, arm, and hip in rapid succession.
Pistorius, 27, always maintained he mistook Reeva for an intruder and she was the victim of a horrible accident.
However, evidence of the athlete's controlling and trigger happy behaviour came to light during the trial.
Pistorius was found not guilty of premeditated murder, murder and two firearms charges.
He was found guilty of Reeva's manslaughter and another gun charge.
South African guidelines on sentencing are so wide he could face up to 15 years in prison or walk away with a suspended sentence.
