Online grooming - thousands of cases go unpunished

We owe it to our children to do everything we can to deter predators from contacting our children

Lorin LaFave, whose son was murdered after being groomed, makes a plea to Theresa May

The NSPCC has told Good Morning Britain that it estimates a new law waiting to be passed since 2015 could have been used in more than 4,000 cases of grooming young children online in England and Wales. The law is already in place in Scotland and there have been 1,500 prosecutions since it was passed six years ago.

Emily Cherry from the NSPCC explained: “The police are powerless to act unless the secretary of state goes to parliament, signs the piece paper and that’s the simple process that needs to happen to put this into force today.”

The Ministry of Justice told GMB they “remain committed to commencing this law as soon as possible”, but charities say they must act now to allow police to intervene before grooming leads to something even worse.

I’m prepared to pay for their taxi from their office over to the Houses of Parliament, which is all they have to do to go and sign the commencement order to allow this to become law.

Jim Gamble, Former head of Child Exploitation and Online Protection, believes the government should declare war on peadophiles
