Joker actor Joaquin Phoenix declares dairy is no joke during Oscars speech
The 92nd Academy Awards was not short of politically motivated speeches, Joaquin Phoenix launched a passionate speech as he picked up the award for Best Actor.
Continuing the award-season trend of highlighting socio-political issues in acceptance speeches, Phoenix slammed the dairy industry for artificially inseminating cows to produce milk for coffee and cereal.
During the speech, the award-winning actor spoke-up for gender inequality, animal rights, and Speciesism, he said: “We feel entitled to artificially inseminate a cow and when she gives birth we steal her baby, even though her cries of anguish are unmistakable. And then we take her milk that's intended for her calf and we put it in our coffee and our cereal.”
Piers joked that “he’s not going to stop me having milk in my coffee.”
But Kelly Osbourne defended the actor’s acceptance speech. She said: “I was a full vegan for a long time. We are the only species that drinks another animals' milk.”
Kelly added: “He’s been consistent throughout the whole awards season, you know what you’re going to get from him and that he’s going to get up there and stand up for his causes. I appreciate and respect that.”
