Jeremy Corbyn: Trump comparisons are 'bizarre'
I want to be in Government so that we don't become a country that's one of the most unequal
This morning Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn told Good Morning Britain he’s willing, ready and capable of winning a General Election, in his first interview with us since he became Labour leader.
It was rumoured he was about to "do a Trump" with a new strategy to use voters' dissatisfaction with politics and politicians to reverse his party's current 13-point deficit in the polls behind the Tories. However, speaking to Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan, Corbyn rejected claims that he was trying to "reboot" his image claiming the comparison to Donald Trump was "more than slightly bizarre".
Piers pushed Jeremy on Tom Watson's claims that he's not part of Corbyn's strategy team, to which Jeremy said: '"Tom, you’re in the shadow cabinet. That’s where the strategy comes from."
Finally Piers presented fellow Arsenal fan Corbyn with a football shirt with the number 10 on it at the end of the interview, joking: "You may never get there, but at least you can have the shirt."
Regular viewers of the show will remember the Corbyn cushion, which has regularly been seen on the sofa when Corbyn has declined invitations to appear on Good Morning Britain. When offered to Corbyn this morning he signed it - but said it could be left in the studio. Was he trying to give us a message about future appearances on the show?
