Jackie Weaver confesses she may not have had the authority during Handforth Parish Council meeting
Viral sensation Jackie Weaver confessed she may not have had the authority during an appearance on Good Morning Britain.
Asked if she had the authority or if she was "chancing her luck" during her now famous Parish Council meeting, she replied: "Maybe the truth is part way between the two options, Piers. There isn’t any tested case law on this. So, I mean 12 months ago we didn’t have the power to hold virtual meetings, so the legislation is not entirely clear on how we handle those."
"But also you have to remember… the Councillor himself made it quite clear in his earlier introduction, that we hadn’t actually started the meeting yet so at that point, we are not looking at what Parish Council legislation is covered by this. We are a group of people together in a room, a virtual room, and is it appropriate that someone is allowed to disrupt the meeting in the way they are doing?" she added.
Earlier in the programme, she said she still felt that she was "correct" on her handling of the meeting.
During the interview, she added she would happily make Piers a friend on Facebook, revealed she was a fan of nail art and joked about Britney Spears. The viral star also gave tips on how to have a happy marriage.
When asked by Susanna if she had read the standing orders, she joked she had had the standing orders tattooed “on a place I would not necessarily want to share”.
She added she was passionate about people from all backgrounds getting involved in their local and Parish councils. She also confessed she had received vile abuse on Twitter, but added that most had been incredibly supportive and those were the ones she wanted to focus on.
