Heatwave hits Britain as temperatures could reach 37C

The UK is set to sizzle as forecasters predict temperatures could reach into the top five ever recorded in Britain.

Temperatures are expected to reach 37 degrees in some parts of the country.

Friday is set to be the hottest day of the heatwave but high temperatures will continue into next week, with thunderstorms expected towards the end of next week.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Britain was 38.7 degrees on 25 July 2019.

If temperatures hit 37 degrees on Friday as forecast, it will be the first time this is recorded twice in one year.

Councils responsible for beaches are asking visitors to follow coronavirus social distancing guidelines, and stay clear of packed beaches.
