Emma Willis' lockdown charity initiative gives you the chance to win a video call with a celebrity

Emma Willis spoke to today’s Good Morning Britain of her new charity initiative, Be My Guest, as well as filming and the reactions to her recent social media post.

Emma explained: “Be My Guest was sort of born during lockdown when G [Giovanna Fletcher] and I were chatting loads on the phone. We just felt quite useless. As I think a lot of people did back then. Everybody kind of wanted to do something but you couldn’t really do anything, could you?

“We thought, ‘What can we do, how can we try and help in some small way?’ So we decided to ask anybody that we knew if they would donate their time in [return for] a donation from a fan. So Be My Guest was born.

“Fans can donate £5 and win a video call with them.”

She added: “Last month we launched another ten people – McFly, Fearne Cotton, Russell Brand, Gok Wan, Stephen Mulhern… at the beginning of this month we launched another bunch of people. They are up on the website and ready to be donated for to win time with.”

The Voice UK star also spoke about filming and working on her maternity ward series on Zoom.

She said: “A little bit of joy and lightness coming out of hospitals and the NHS, because babies are being born every day, and it’s making people’s year, even though this pandemic is breaking a lot of years, it was a really lovely thing to be a part of.”

Emma was also asked if she was surprised by the reaction to posting a picture of her son Ace in a pink top on her social media page: “I was really overwhelmed actually. It’s just my son in a pink top. And for me that’s kind of normality. He loves colour, he’s always had long hair and he’s a very free and open-minded boy who doesn’t really… he’s like, ‘Why do I have to dress in green and blue and grey if I like pink and red and purple – why isn’t that OK?’ He’s kind of always been that way. We, I think, are trying to raise him as a very open-minded and inclusive individual. There was a couple of negative bits, but the block button is a great thing.”
