We ran as fast as we could, without knowing what was happening

Eyewitness Celia Delcourt

Eighty-four people, including several children, are reported dead after a suspected terror attack saw a lorry plough into a Bastille Day celebration in Nice. Over 100 were injured, with 18 currently in a critical condition.

The vehicle hit crowds who had gathered to celebrate the French national day in the Mediterranean city. Footage shows the lorry driving along the road with police chasing it, a man holding on to the side and crowds scattering in its path and in its wake.

Police shot dead the driver, reported to be a 31-year-old Tunisian man. Multiple grenades and guns were found within the ruck.

President Francois Hollande has publicly acknowledged the incident as a twrror attack and extended the national state of emergency, started after the Bataclan Attack, by a further three months.

Addressing the nation this morning he said: "This attack that has all the elements to be called a terrorist attack is once again of an incredible violence and it is clear we have to do everything in our power to fight this terrorist plague.

"The driver has been shot dead. In this moment we don't know if he had accomplices."
