Daring pilot to attempt solo flight to Australia
This was one of the most outstanding solo achievements in history
It was one of the most daring solo flights ever.
Back in 1930, Amy Johnson made history when she became the first woman to fly from the UK all the way to Australia in an open cockpit aircraft.
Now, 85 years on, another remarkable woman, pilot Tracey Curtis-Taylor, is attempting to recreate the same 13,000 mile journey in a plane that's almost as old as Amy's!
Tracey, who calls herself the 'bird in a bi-Plane', will embark on her solo adventure from Farnborough bound for Sydney at midday today.
In her very own vintage open cockpit plane, Tracey will fly through 23 countries during a perilous journey that could take at least 12 weeks to complete.
Amy Johnson completed the daring mission in 1930 when she was just 26 years old.
