Coronation Street celebrates its 60th anniversary, cementing its place in television history as the world’s longest-running drama serial. The soap first screened live at 7pm on Friday 9th December 1960. More than 10,000 episodes later the Guinness World Record holding programme has seen 57 births, 146 deaths and 131 weddings alongside affairs, murders, secrets and lies.
To celebrate this incredible milestone ITV has been screening special shows, publishing an anniversary book, launching new products, unveiling unique social media content and of course at the centre of it all a fantastic week of drama on the cobbles of Weatherfield.

60 years of Ken Barlow!
Not only is Coronation Street celebrating 60 years on our screens this year, but the world's longest-serving soap actor Bill Roache is celebrating 60 years on the cobbles! Bill first appeared on the show as Ken Barlow on 9th December 1960. Since his first episode, Bill has appeared in more than 4,500 episodes since then. The 60th-anniversary episodes will see Ken trying to save a part of Coronation Street. He will also have a problem with his dysfunctional family.
