Colleen's cancer sniffed out by Inca the dog
She's a very vocal, very noisy, very lively dog - all of a sudden she would jump up and become very still ... about a millimeter from my mouth
Colleen Ferguson suspected something wasn't quite right when her German Shepherd Inca started behaving unusually towards her. The dog kept getting very close to her mouth and peering at her and as the strange behaviour became more and more regular, Colleen decided to get a medical check-up.
Tests found a cancerous golf ball sized tumour in her left lung. Luckily further scans showed it had not spread and that it had been found at a very early stage, thanks to Inca.
Thanks to an early spot and further tests Colleen is now fine and well and she puts it down to her pup who is now more relaxed around her because she knows she is better.
This isn't the first story we've heard about dogs detecting cancer in their owners. Medical Detection Dogs has now got the green light for first a canine prostate cancer trial in the UK.
