'Cancer Drugs Fund' ends today after five years
Even if someone gets an extra month... that could be the difference between reaching that special family milestone
'Cancer Drugs Fund', which currently boosts funding by 21.5%, ends today after five years.
We meet Ben Ashworth, who is living with terminal bowel cancer after his diagnosis four years ago. Ben was told he had six-twelve months to live after his initial prognosis, but has defied expectations with the help of an expensive drug through the 'Cancer Drugs Fund', which isn't available on the NHS.
He started the treatment almost three years ago and has been doing "really well" ever since - he's even run 21 marathons!
Ben says, "I'm just so sad that other people that come after me might be denied the same treatment that has given me so much life". Ben adds that his youngest daughter was just five months when he was given his first diagnosis but he's been privileged to watch her grow - he wishes the same for others.
