Ben Shephard: GB hockey triumph was my highlight of the Olympics
Around 9 million people across the UK tuned in to watch Team GB beat the Netherlands in the women's hockey final in Rio. One of the golden girls, Sam Quek, joined us today to recount the amazing achievement to claim Olympic gold in a nail-biting match which our Ben describes as his highlight of the Games.
The final was decided in a tense penalty shoot-out, which Kate Garraway describes as almost unbearable to watch. Looking back at that match, Sam says it was "one of the most surreal moments... and so special"
The Netherlands went into the Rio Games as strong favourites having triumphed in the previous two Olympics, but our British girls showed the skill and determination to go undefeated throughout the tournament.
Sam is dedicating her gold medal to her grandmother who is in hospital right now but making a full recovery. She's grateful to all the fans for their incredible support both at home and in Rio where her boyfriend Tom led the raucous support of British supporters in the stands each game.
Having got the job done in Rio, Sam and her teammates enjoyed the BA flight back home with the rest of Team GB's athletes by leading plenty of sing-songs and serving up the meals as part of a revamped cabin crew!
Congratulations, Sam and Team GB's hockey stars - you've inspired the nation!
