Alton Towers discuss payouts as girl loses leg

Alton Towers will meet with insurers this week to discuss compensation for the victims of the Smiler rollercoaster crash, soon after the announcement that 17-year old Leah Washington has had her leg amputated.

The families of three people injured have welcomed the admission of liability from the theme park. Victoria Balch and Joe Pugh were also among those injured in the crash last Tuesday.

Merlin Entertainments, which owns Alton Towers, said it accepts full responsibility for the crash and that all those injured will receive compensation.

The park opened again on Monday but the Smiler ride remains closed.
