Alice is her estate's own supergran!
It's the first time I've been lost for words. I feel very proud.
Today we meet our Pride of Britain nominee Alice Burke, who has turned her Hackney housing estate around after gangs, muggers and drug dealers turned it into a no-go zone.
Gran Alice and her family of three children moved into the newly built Nightingale Estate in January 1975. However, by the late 1980s the estate had become run down.
Alice headed up the resident's association and lobbied to get rid of the Tower blocks and she became the People's Champion offering support and strength - and she herself became a prime target as she started standing up to the undesirable people living on the estate. She had bricks smashed through her car window, was shouted at, threatened and even had a death threat - but Alice kept on fighting and wouldn't be intimidated.
The Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards celebrate the achievements of remarkable people who make our World a better place and GMB are looking to recognise an individual - through our Local Hero Award - who has improved the lives of those around them in their community.
Matt Johnson pays Alice and her family visit to find out more about her incredible work.
