Storck: Hungary deserved last-gasp equaliser

Hungary coach Bernd Storck felt his side claimed the least they deserved after snatching a 1-1 draw with Iceland in their Euro 2016 Group F clash.

Birkir Saevarsson turned into his own net with two minutes remaining as tiredness eventually caught up with plucky Iceland and prevented them holding onto the lead given to them by Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty.

The result lifted Hungary to four points following victory over Austria in their opening game.

Storck was in no doubt the point was merited after his side dominated proceedings in Marseille, particularly in the second half.

Storck said at his post-match press conference: "I'm proud of my side, that we had so much possession and played football, always trying to stretch the game.

"We're very happy with our performance and the late goal. It was a big bit of luck but a deserved one because we dominated the game."

Storck paid tribute to the resilience of Iceland, who also drew against Portugal in their opener.

He said: "Iceland have a lot of experience - that's why it was difficult for us. Considering their results in qualifying against the Czech Republic, Netherlands and Turkey, they're a top team - that's what you can't forget.

"We couldn't create many chances, Iceland defended cleverly, although it was better in the second half. We never gave up and always believed in ourselves."

The performances of group minnows Iceland in their two games have earned praise but joint manager Heimir Hallgrimsson was disappointed not to be celebrating victory.

He said: "We were happy with a point against Portugal but we're disappointed with this result. The dressing room was silent.

"We put a lot of effort into defending, what we did badly was keeping the ball. That was probably down to tiredness in the end.

"They seemed to easily overcome our pressure and play their way out of it. On the other hand, we had the better chances. The guys worked really hard and we're proud of the performance and work-rate."

Striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson said: "We wanted the three points today and were so close. If you could only have seen how disappointed the guys were in the dressing room - it feels like a loss."
