Age: 28Club: Los Angeles FCCaps: 65
Powerful and experienced forward Marcos Ureña will play a key role for Costa Rica, being the focal point of their attacking line.
Not renowned as a clinical goalscorer, Ureña is nonetheless a critical piece of the plan for his nation thanks to his hold-up play and ability to link with other attackers.
He faces a battle to be fully fit, having required surgery after suffering facial fractures toward the end of April, but the fact he was named in the final 23 regardless of injury shows his importance to Costa Rica.
While he might not be a regular on the scoresheet―he hadn't scored for new club LAFC in 2018 before his injury—he led the MLS assist charts with five in his first six games, highlighting his selflessness and awareness in the final third.
Always hard working, strong and determined, Ureña can be a real handful, occupying multiple defenders and keeping possession to allow his side to regroup or attack in numbers.
With 15 goals at international level to his name, he's one of the more likely players to trouble opposition goalkeepers in a team which scored just once in four friendlies after qualifying for the World Cup finals.
