Ibrahimovic to retire from Sweden duty after Euro 2016
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has announced that he will retire from international football at the conclusion of Sweden's Euro 2016 campaign.
The decision means that Ibrahimovic, Sweden's all-time top scorer with 62 goals, will not participate with his countrymen in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Ibrahimovic made his announcement ahead of Sweden's final Group E clash with Belgium in Nice on Wednesday - a game Erik Hamren's men need to win in order to have any hope of progressing to the last 16 of the tournament.
> > The last game for Sweden at the Euros will be my last game for Sweden. I hope it is not tomorrow. I will not play at the Olympics so I hope we go as far as possible here. Either way, I will not end disappointed. I am very proud to be captain of Sweden. > > > “I want to thank all the supporters who have helped me achieve what I have done. Wherever I go I will always bring the Swedish flag with me and be proud of it. I will never be disappointed. Thank you everyone. > >
The 34-year-old is also searching for a new club this summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract, and has been heavily linked with joining Jose Mourinho at Manchester United ahead of next season.
