Grow Your Own With Emmerdale: Herbs
Growing herbs at home is something that everybody can try, and gives you the option of adding vibrant flavours to your meals without having to go to the shops, and it always tastes better when you know you’ve grown it yourself - imagine snipping some home grown chives onto your eggs on a Sunday morning, delightful.
The most commonly used herbs such as basil, parsley, coriander, sage and thyme can all be grown by a sunny window, or outside in a window box. Home-grown herbs tend to be relatively hardy and simple to grow for any first-time gardeners out there as well, so why not give it a go this year?
Our final video of the Grow your own with Emmerdale series sees Jonny & Lisa take us through the process of growing parsley, basil or chives. These herbs are great for beginners and seasoned gardeners alike, and reach maturity around 10 to 11 weeks after planting from seed. You’ll be blitzing up a tasty basil pesto, or a lovely parsley sauce in no time.
As Jonny reminds us, you don’t need an allotment or even a garden to try your hand at growing your own fruit, veg or herbs at home. All you need is a few items that you can find around the house and a sunny spot by the window.
All of our thanks to Lisa, Jo, and Elinor for sharing their botanical expertise with us, and last but not least to the wonderful Jonny for guiding us along this grow-your-own at home journey. We hope that you’ve enjoyed the series as much as we have, and that you’ll join us in growing your own at home this year!
