Identity Stories Poem
Let me tell you a story
One you might not know
You might see the scars
But most aren’t on show
Have you felt uncomfortable
For just being you
Like everyone’s watching
All that you do?
You can’t wear the clothes
They say they are wrong
You can’t play your music
They hate that damn song
More time spent wishing
To be somebody else
It’s hard living life
Despising yourself
Now the threats get much worse
And words turn to violence
So afraid in the dark
A scream in the silence
My story’s your story
We’re the same flesh and bone
I just want you to know
You will never be alone
