Carla's wedding dress
Eve Salter, Coronation Street’s Head of Costume, talks us through the process of finding a dress suitable for the latest Corrie bride-to-be...
It’s every woman’s dream to have the perfect dress on her wedding day, and it’s no different for Carla Connor - especially as she’s enlisted the help of her dear friend Hayley to make it.
Eve Salter, Coronation Street’s Head of Costume, said: “I initially put together a mood board and presented it to Ali (King). This allowed us to work together to come up with a style that would suit both Ali herself and Carla. We both agreed that the idea of antique lace and some subtle embellishment would work perfectly.“I then worked alongside Carmella Manzo, our talented seamstress, as well as the design team to put the final ideas into sketches. As Hayley was given the task of Carla’s dress, we had to ensure the design sketches were done in a typically ‘Hayley’ style.“Having tried out a few of our own ideas, we decided to take a look at dresses that had already been made. Ali and I went along to a wedding dress shop where she tried on a variety of different styles until we settled on one in particular.“Carmella then used her talents to tailor the dress accordingly and added embellishment to turn the original dress into something completely unique for Carla, whilst also remembering that the dress was to be ‘made’ for her by her dear friend Hayley”.
