ITV4 signs new deals for high-octane motorsport series
ITV4 is racing ahead with its coverage of top-level motorsport after signing new deals to screen high-profile international series.
The channel has agreed the rights to show live coverage of the innovative open-wheel Formula E series and highlights of the world’s premier motorcycling championship, MotoGP (FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix) on ITV4.
Motorcycle racing fans can look forward to a mouth-watering season of free-to-air coverage of the biggest two-wheeled stars in action, with MotoGP joining British Superbike Championship highlights on ITV4.
Earlier this year, ITV4 announced a deal to show weekly highlights of the World Rally Championship, as well as daily highlights of the Wales Rally GB.
These events sit alongside ITV4’s already extensive motorsport portfolio, with live coverage of every race meeting in the British Touring Car Championship, highlights of the domestic BRDC Formula 4 single-seater series and events including the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
ITV’s Director of Sport Niall Sloane said: “I’m delighted we will be able to bring viewers live coverage of wheel-to-wheel racing in the world’s most famous cities in Formula E, and the high-octane action of the MotoGP circuit. These new deals, along with those for domestic events, highlight the importance of motorsport to ITV4 and add to the wealth of free to air coverage we’re able to bring motorsport fans throughout the year.”
The new deals mean that motorsport fans can watch their favourites throughout the week. As well as packed weekend schedules of live motor racing, weeknights will now boast highlights packages including MotoGP on Mondays at 8pm following BT Sport's live coverage over the weekend, World Rally Championship on Tuesdays at 8pm, and British Superbike Championship on Wednesdays at 8pm.
