Updated: Collard airlifted to hospital after Silverstone crash

Ebay Motors BMW driver Rob Collard was airlifted to hospital for precautionary checks after this crash two laps from the end of the second BTCC race of the weekend.

Gordon Shedden hit the back of Jack Clarke, who tagged Collard, as the Ford Focus driver recovered.

Clarke told reporters: “I came together with Gordon at Becketts. He gave me a little bit of a tap on the exit which put me sideways.

“It wasn’t a bad move, we just came together on the exit which put me sideways and into the path of Rob. It was a racing incident, a bit of rough and tumble between me and Gordon and an innocent party unfortunately had to suffer.Jason Plato won the race, with Colin Turkington second.

Collard was extracted from the car on a stretcher as a precaution but is not thought to be seriously injured. However he will miss the final BTCC race of the day.

Ebay Motors team boss Dick Bennetts told ITV's Louise Goodman "Rob's OK but as a precaution they're going to do a scan.

"He's complained of some pins and needles but [BTCC medical delegate Dr Paul Trafford] said that is normal."

Collard was accompanied in the air ambulance by his son Ricky, who had been due to race in the Formula Ford championship this afternoon.
