Turkington brushes aside Plato's complaints ahead of Silverstone

Colin Turkington has brushed aside claims from rival Jason Plato that "there's a championship for one car and a championship for the rest" as the eBay Motors man aims to make history at Silverstone on Sunday.

Speaking after Turkington extended his Championship lead to 55 points at Rockingham, Plato was again critical of what he perceives as an unfair disparity between front and real wheel drives.

"I'm not taking anything away from Colin as a driver or WSR as a team; they are operating at fantastically well, but my aim as the season has progressed has been to become the best of the rest," he said.

"There are two championships here; there's a championship for one car and a championship for the rest."

Turkington must outscore Plato by 12 points on Sunday to become the first driver since 1997 to secure the Championship before the final round of races.

And the man from Portadown, who clinched his first title in 2009, doesn't understand why Plato feels so aggrieved.

"I don't quite understand where he's coming from. We've all signed up to the same championship, and to the same rule book. eBay Motors are just doing the best job at the moment.

"I try and focus on my job. I think it's easier for me to try and say less."

The good news for BTCC fans is that Turkington has no plans to leave the Championship next season, whether or not he lifts the title as expected in the next few weeks.

The 32 year-old was forced to take a break from British Touring Cars following victory in 2009, but is confident he won't be going anywhere this time around.

"I want to remain in this championship for as long as I can," he said.

"It's a great place to be. It's a great place to be racing, especially at the moment, the profile is great and I'm with one of the best teams in one of the best cars, so I'm exactly where I want to be."
