Honda to run three car BTCC attack in 2017
Matt Simpson will return to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship in 2017, having switched from Speedworks Motorsport to Team Dynamics in Britain’s premier motor sport series.
Simpson entered the BTCC this year off the back of multiple title successes in the European Hot Rod Championship and Quaife Intermarque Championship.
He got off to a good start by tallying a point on his debut weekend at Brands Hatch Indy behind the wheel of his Honda Civic Type R, adding to that with a brace of 13thplaces a month later at Thruxton.
Those results earned Simpson 15th spot in the Independents’ Trophy standings and third in the chase for the Jack Sears Trophy, with a victory in the latter in the Brands Hatch GP season finale underscoring his progress.
He will continue to run under the Simpson Racing banner, while his partnership with Team Dynamics will enable the 35-year-old to receive mentoring and guidance from defending title-holder Gordon Shedden and fellow multiple BTCC champion Matt Neal.
“I’m over the moon to be working with Team Dynamics for next year,” Simpson enthused. “Their track record and pedigree speaks for itself, and we know we have a great package in the Honda Civic Type R they have developed. I can’t wait to go testing with them in the New Year.”
“We’re really pleased to have Matt on-board for next season,” echoed Team Dynamics team manager James Rodgers. “He was fast and reliable all year, and I now hope with our input we can help him move up the grid to the next level.”
