Hamilton: It's going to be quite a rollercoaster
Nic Hamilton says his maiden BTCC season will be a rollercoaster ride. The brother of the two times Formula One World Champon Lewis Hamilton announced today that he'll be racing for AmD Tuning in the championship this year.
"Originally I just wanted to drive," says Nic, who was born with cerebral palsy. "When i was born they said I'd never walk. It was a baptism of fire going into the Clio Cup, and now I haven't been in a racing car for 18 months."
"Being a Hamilton people think that I have all this power behind me and it's easy, but for two years it's been me on my own. I have a good team behind me now.
I see myself as a paralympian
"I was in a wheelchair for five years, being unable to walk long distances. It was all about building up the muscles in my legs.
"I see my self as a paralympian," he added. Nic will be the first disabled competitor in the BTCC,.
"I don't have a lot of experience or a lot of money. This is a development programme for me. It's a great championship, but I'm learning my craft and I don't want to just jump into it and have to learn. I want to put myself into the strongest position possible."
