Gow takes blame for "dull" Oulton Park races
BTCC series boss Alan Gow says his choice of circuit layout was the reason for the lack of excitement at Oulton Park earlier this month.
Drivers had blamed new rules which penalise them for contact, and running wide for not giving them as many overtaking opportunities, but Gow discounted that, saying it was using the Shell layout of the Cheshire track rather than the more usual Island version..
"It's nonsense," the Australian told ITV's Louise Goodman. "If it was down to contact and track limits, we'd have had dull races all year.
"I chose a different layout at Oulton Park this year, it's a layout we haven't used for Touring Cars since 1996, and now we remember why we stopped using it."
Asked whether that meant we would return to the Island layout of Oulton Park for next season, Gow replied "We certainly won't be using the same one as this year again."
