BTCC reverts to traditional race 2 grid setting after season-long trial

The BTCC has announced that it is axing a change to the starting order for the second race of each weekend after just one season, in favour of reverting to the previous rules.

Since the championship adopted the three races per day format in 2004, the grid for the second race had been set based on the finishing positions of the first race, but at the start of this season a change was introduced which set the grid based on the fastest lap time of each car during the first race.

A statement released by the BTCC today reads: "The consensus is that the increased ballast levels and soft tyres are having the desired effect as far as producing differing race results. Therefore, the race two starting positions will revert to being based upon the finishing order in race one."

It is the only change to the sporting regulations for 2016, which were released today after a meeting of team representatives earlier this month.

"The fact that there are so few amendments to the BTCC sporting regulations for 2016 is testament to the regulations we already have in place," said BTCC Series Director Alan Gow.
