AmD Tuning team to expand into Ginetta Junior
Having competed in the final three rounds of the Ginetta Junior championship this season with rookie racer Esmee Hawkey, West Thurrock-based BTCC team AmD Tuning.com will increase its involvement in the series next year with an aim towards challenging for the championship title.
The expanded Ginetta entry, which will run as an AmDTuning.com Junior entry, will mark the first step on a ‘ladder programme’ for the team as it seeks to expand its current British Touring Car Championship team to include a second car.
“There is no doubt that these are exciting times for us at AmDTuning.com,” team boss Shaun Hollamby said.
"We hope to expand our BTCC team to include a second car, but regardless of how many touring cars we are able to run in 2015, we will increase our Ginetta team beyond the single car we have run for Esmee this year.
Hawkey made her race debut at Rockingham last month, and is being coached by former Ginetta Junior race winner, and BTCC driver, Jake Hill. Hill also drove AmD's BTCC car in August's Dunlop tyre test at Snetterton.
"Having spent much of the year testing alongside her karting commitments, she has produced some encouraging performances on track since making her debut at Rockingham and we believe she can do good things in the Rookie Class next year," added Hollamby.
“Alongside that, we are keen to run one or two established drivers as part of a Junior team that will be linked into the touring car programme, and we are looking to challenge for the championship.
“Our plans are all down to the fact that the BTCC package is the strongest there is in UK motorsport, and there is no better place for us to showcase what AmDTuning.com can do.”
