Simon: “Why I hit my Golden Buzzer for Bars and Melody”

What was it about Saturday's young rapping duo Bars and Melody that inspired Simon Cowell to finally press his Golden Buzzer?

Alesha and Amanda were teary-eyed and the audience were out of their seats celebrating the pair's one way ticket to the semi-finals.

BGT Insider grabbed a one-to-one with the notoriously difficult to please Judge to find out why Bars and Melody stood out for Simon.

Bars and Melody's Golden Buzzer moment

What did it feel like to press the Golden Buzzer?

It felt empowering. Everyone went nuts and they were really emotional. They are really great kids.

What do you think is so special about the boys?

I like the fact that they wrote their own song based on life experiences. People are going to root for them and they've got this great friendship that is so obvious when you watch them together.

Do you think they could win it?

I do actually. When you've got that kind of support from the public going into the finals, it helps. So I think they're going to do well.

Do you think you've got the strongest Golden Buzzer?

Well me or Amanda, there is obviously a slight age difference between the two
