Rachael Wooding on her BGT journey so far: "I’m having a ball!”

Rachael Wooding wowed the Judges with her version of With You from Ghost the musical on Saturday’s BGT - with Simon even branding her rendition the most beautiful he’s ever heard!

Fresh from bagging four yeses from the Judges, we caught up with the 37-year old mum to find out more about her show-stopping audition.

So, how does it feel swapping the West End for BGT? Who would she most like to duet with? And, what would she do if she met the Queen? Find out now…

She’s on Cloud 9 after her audition

After stating that the tenth series of BGT felt like “the perfect time” to audition after becoming a mum, Rachael went on to add: “You don’t know what to expect going into it and I was really nervous. At the end, I was overwhelmed because I got through it. Then, when they said what they said, I was just on Cloud 9.”

She was more nervous facing the Judges than performing in the West End

Stating her time on the BGT stage was “the most nervous” she’s ever been, Rachael went on to claim: “I think it was a combination of not being on stage since I’ve had Amelia (her daughter) and not performing for a while. Also, in the past, I’ve come off stage, and then that’s it. You don’t ask what they thought of your performance and you don’t stand there in front of everyone on the TV and wait and see what they thought of it. That was scary. My confidence was low and I think that’s the main reason really.”

Simon blew her away with his comments

With Simon branding her version of With You “the most beautiful” he’s heard, Rachael revealed she still can’t believe she cracked Mr Nasty! Speaking of his comments, she said: “That totally blew me away. I couldn’t believe it, everyone was saying nice comments and then when Simon said that, I just couldn’t believe it. He was the last to comment and thought it was brilliant, so that was great.”

She wants to sing with a certain Canadian crooner!

Telling us that she’s always wanted to be a singer after watching Les Misérables as a child, Rachael went on to confess that she’s also eyeing up a duet with none other than Michael Buble! She explained: “There’s so many people I’d love to sing with. I’d like to duet with Michael Bublé, who wouldn’t? Just to say I’ve met him and my grandma’s favourite singer is Shirley Bassey. Never in a million years would it happen and obviously I’d be like a little bird beside her big voice, but that would be pretty awesome.”

While musical theatre may be her thing, she’s not a one trick pony

When asked what sets her aside from other singers on the show, Rachael said: “Even though I’ve got a West End background, I feel like I don’t have a typical musical theatre kind of voice. My main focus is to be a mum and it’s made me a different person, so I feel like I can come out from a different angle. That’s what I’m looking forward to. I love musicals and I had a really good time with it… but from now on, it would be nice to do something different.”

She’d love to shake hands with the Queen

Describing her BGT journey so far as “absolutely incredible”, Rachael concluded that she’s “absolutely loved” her time on the show so far, adding: “I’m having a ball!” And, when it comes to the possibility of performing for the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance, Rachael is already thinking about coming face-to-face with Her Majesty, saying: “Ultimately, I would like to be on that front row backstage and shake her hand. I’d love that.”
