Lucy Kay will be rocking out in preparation for the Final

Triumphant opera singer Lucy Kay is eager to push opera into the mainstream but she has a secret.

The stunning singer who came top of last night’s public vote doesn’t actually spend her spare time soaking up classical music.

“I don’t actually listen to much opera.” she said. “I prefer heavy metal bands like Metallica and Kill Switch Engage. I’ll be listening to Metallica on the car journey home.

“I won’t be going to Glastonbury though.”

Lucy has one big opera idol and she would very much like to join her on stage one day.

“I’d love to sing with Katherine Jenkins. She has done a great job of popularising opera."

The 24-year-old has already accumulated a host of celebrity fans including Adam Woodyatt and Olly Murs. Olly tweeted about her performance.

With the Finals over a week away, Lucy has big plans.

“I’d love to bring a tear of joy to Simon Cowell’s eyes with my singing, Lucy said. “I’m preparing a massively challenging, emotionally iconic aria for the final.

“It’s got a huge ending and is normally sung by much older sopranos.”

Lucy’s Final performance will be tinged with sadness as her adored vocal coach Pamela Cook passed away last year,

Lucy said: “ I would have loved her to have seen me in the final. I have to take Simon’s advice though and live in the moment.”

Watch the last two semi-finals of BGT Thursday 29 and Saturday 31 May ITV 7.30pm and see Lucy in the live Final on Saturday June 6.
