David: “Simon thinks he should have a Knighthood”

David Walliams has let slip that fellow Judge and object of his affections Simon Cowell isn’t content with being a music mogul and that he’s eyeing up a knighthood!

What with hosts Ant & Dec being awarded an OBE earlier this year, David revealed he thinks Simon is slightly envious by the Geordie duo’s achievements.

He stated: “Simon definitely thinks he should have a Knighthood! I don’t know why, I don’t know what he thinks he’s done! Maybe by just being famous for long enough. What he doesn’t realise is you have to do something positive, you can’t just spread evil and think that you’ll get one!

“So I think he’s a bit peeved about it. I think he thinks he was going to get one at one stage. Who knows, though it would be annoying to have to call him Sir Simon, I wouldn’t like that, so I really hope it doesn’t happen.”

Aside from his love for Simon, the comedian went on to claim that when it comes to finding this year’s BGT winner, he’s on the look out for a “genre-busting” act, adding that the entertainment factor is just as important to him as talent.

David explained: “I think people often confuse talent for entertainment value. Someone can be hugely entertaining without being necessarily that talented. They’ve come up with an original idea, doing something we’ve never seen before or they are just an entertaining person. Just another person singing a Whitney Houston song, in the style of Whitney Houston, can be boring because we’ve seen that. Whereas someone who’s a bit madcap and does something you’ve never seen before can be a lot more entertaining.

“The good thing is we’ve got the audience behind us all the time, it’s interesting looking at them and seeing what is really grabbing them. It’s interesting when someone comes on and has a good voice, does a good, competent version of a pop song, but leaves them cold. Then someone can come on who’s daft and gets them on their feet. That’s what I like about the show. So, for me, entertainment value is more important.”

We can’t wait to see David in action when BGT returns to ITV this Saturday, 15th April, at 8pm!
