We surprise amazing Amy, a young carer
Figures released today reveal that 80% of young carers are missing out on their own childhood as a result of caring for family or friends.
Of the 700,000 under 18s who provide care to disabled, mentally and physically ill people, most spent time cleaning, cooking and administering medicine rather than enjoying hobbies or seeing friends.
Today is Young Carers Awareness day and we surprised 13-year-old Amy, who cares for her mum, brother and sister.
Talking to an excited Amy, Holly said, "We think you’re amazing." The shocked schoolgirl was taken towards the TM film crew to meet Michael Underwood who explained how some gifts - including books, singing lessons, and an iPad to help with her carer research and advice - from the daytime show were for her. Amy said, “Thank you! Thank you so much… this is like far too much! This is unbelievable, I thought I was getting into trouble!”
