Free £100 giftcard, shopping boost and Lego

Free £100 giftcard for Christmas, Asda shopping boost and ‘free’ Lego. These are our Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis’ Quick Deals.

Remember, deals can change quickly, even while I’m on the programme. So always double-check the terms and conditions before spending. Plus, while I hope these deals will save you cash, don’t spend if you can’t afford it, don’t need it, or won’t use it.

Free £100 gift card for Christmas

Most cashback cards give rewards after a year, but with the Amex Rewards Gold charge card, it’ll come far sooner, in time for Christmas or the January sales (depending on your shopping). It gives accepted newbies (you need a household income of over £20,000) who spend £2,000+ on it in the first three months a 20,000 Membership Rewards points bonus. This converts into a £100 M&S/Boots/Amazon gift card (exact stores can change, but they’re usually good) or BA/Virgin etc points.

While £2,000 spending sounds a lot, just use it for all normal daily and Christmas spending (it’s not an excuse to spend more), replacing other cards, cash, cheques etc. If you don’t hit the £2,000 you’d still earn points worth £5 per £1,000, just no bonus. Soon after you hit the trigger, the bonus is usually added (though it can take up to a month), then you can choose your reward, so those who hit it quickly may make it for Christmas, if not, hopefully January.

It’s worth noting, this is a charge not credit card, ie, designed to be fully repaid each month - so no interest is charged. Yet as normal, don't miss repayments or it's a £12 charge and credit file default. Only spend if you can afford to repay.

There's no annual fee in year one - after it's £140/year. If you don't want to pay, get the reward and CANCEL.

4% boost on Asda Christmas shop

Supermarket savings stamp schemes encourage year-long saving for Christmas, yet a loophole allows you to get the year's bonus in just one day. Most supermarkets pay out the bonus based on how much you’ve saved by a specific day or month, so top up Asda’s savings card with £144 by 5pm this Sunday and on Monday you’ll have £150. You can pick up the Asda’s Christmas Savings Card in-store and then register it online. You can have multiple cards too and the amount can be used in multiple transactions.

‘Free’ Star Wars Lego toy in newspaper

If you buy the Daily Mail on Saturday (90p) you’ll find a voucher inside for a free Star Wars Lego toy to be redeemed on the same day – I’ve seen the same kit for £5ish online. To get one, in England, Scotland and Wales, take your voucher to high-street WHSmith branches. In Northern Ireland, collect the toy from Easons. It’s available while stocks last, so try to get in there early to avoid missing out. I’ve been told there are around 250,000 initially available.
