Make-up trade-in and more from Martin
'Save £4,600’ balance-transferring debts, £10ish Benefit trade-in, Easyjet flight refund trick and 20% off FCUK. These are our Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis’ 90 Second Savers.
Remember, deals can change quickly, even while I’m on the programme. So always double-check the terms and conditions before spending. Plus, while I hope these deals will save you cash, don’t spend if you can’t afford it, don’t need it, or won’t use it.
‘Save £4,600’ balance transferring debts to three years 0%
A balance transfer is where you get a new card to repay debt on an old card(s), so you owe it at a far lower interest, allowing you to clear more actual debt. A price war’s raged all year, helping some who didn’t think they’d be accepted. Kelly told me: “Got 35 months 0%, shifted £11,500 from up to 29.9% APR”- saving £4,600 interest.
In the last 10 days, three new cardholder deals have launched in a battle to top the 0% table with lower fees – and all are better than the prior best ever three-year 0% loan deal. For a full breakdown see Martin’s full balance transfer & eligibility checker guide, which runs through all the top cards and shows which you’re most likely to get.
- Barclaycard up to 36 months 0% with a one-off 2.49% fee, 18.9% rep APR after. Ends on Monday.
- Virgin 36 months 0% with a one-off 2.5% fee, 18.9% rep APR after.
- Halifax up to 36 months 0% with a one-off 2.9% fee, 18.9% rep APR after.
- Barclaycard up to 28 months 0% with a one-off 1.35% fee, 18.9% rep APR after.
Always follow the golden rules though:
a) Never miss minimum monthly repayments, or the bank can end your 0% deal and charge far more.b) Clear the card or transfer again before the 0% ends, or the rate rockets to your card's standard APR.c) Don't spend/withdraw cash on these. It usually isn't at the cheap rate and cash withdrawals hit your credit file.
Free £10 Benefit trade-in
From Saturday, take any old skincare product (any brand, not make-up) into a Boots with a Benefit counter and you can exchange it for a Benefit sample usually worth £4 - £10. It’s on until Saturday 27 June, though there are 20,000 samples so it may go sooner. Just ask for a free 5-10 minute skincare consultation and you can get one of three samples: facial emulsion, eye cream or facial serum.
Easyjet flight refund trick
If you've booked a flight with Easyjet, check the price afterwards to see if it drops. The airline's little-known price promise guarantees that if you do find the same flight for less after booking, you'll get the difference back as a credit voucher. You'll need to have booked direct though and you won’t get the difference back if the lower price you’ve found is a sale price. Just call its customer service department. Lots of people report getting back anything from £10 to £200.
FCUK 20% off
Go online to French Connection and you’ll get an extra 20% off sale items when you enter the code FC20MD until 11.59pm on Sunday 31 May. Delivery’s £3.95 or you can collect in-store for free. Or head to stores and the discount will be applied automatically. The discount’s valid on full price items, though many are excluded.
