Leslie Ash tells us 'I did not do my homework'
If it’s gone well then they don't want people to know that they’ve had anything done, and if it’s gone badly there’s this shame… and I know, I went through it. You feel like just hiding yourself away and never coming out.
More and more Britons are going overseas for cut-price cosmetic surgery, with the number of people undergoing procedures abroad rising by 109% in the past two years.
From dentures in Thailand to bottom lifts in Turkey, people are seeking surgery abroad, tempted by low-cost flights and the promise of cosmetic surgery at a fraction of the price that it would cost in the UK. But medical tourism can be a gamble and the results aren't always a bargain, as Leslie Ash investigates in our two part series Cosmetic Surgery Nightmares.
Today we see the first part of Leslie's investigation and she joins us live in the studio to discuss her own cosmetic horrors, as well as the growing craze of cheap surgery abroad.
Leslie opened up to Phillip and Holly, saying "In my day, when it happened, I did not do my homework which was very silly but I thought it was a dermal filler that would just disappear, that your body would break it down, but unbeknown to me they were using an industrial filler which got mixed up with all my muscles and those are the complications that can happen.”
We quizzed 2,000 men and women on cosmetic surgery and results showed that:
1 in 10 women ARE considering having cosmetic surgery
35 per cent of women who have already gone under the knife did it between the ages of 18 and 24
Of those nearly a quarter had MORE than one procedure
Shockingly, almost 1 in 10 were TOTALLY DISSATISFIED with the results
Face surgery was the most popular cosmetic procedure with one quarter opting to improve their breasts and 1 in 10 going for surgery on their tummy.
64 per cent of those interviewed said they went under the knife to PLEASE THEMSELVES
1 in 3 said they WOULD consider having surgery abroad
While 1 in 20 had already been abroad for procedures
