Kellie Maloney: My sex-change surgery nightmare
If I don't have it done my journey will never be complete
We all remember the shock last August when boxing promoter Frank Maloney announced he was now living as a woman and wanted to be known as Kellie. As a 61-year-old in a sport not known for its tolerance, Kellie always knew her transition wasn’t going to be straightforward.
But three weeks ago, after surgery abroad to make her face look more feminine, Kellie suffered complications that left her in intensive care and, as she puts it, with a face “like a Halloween mask”. Kellie is still recovering from the ordeal, which has left her too distraught to leave the house. But she insists she will go ahead with the most important operation of all – the six-hour, final sex-change operation to become a woman.
We are also joined by Kellie’s 38-year-old daughter Emma, who has made Kellie promise not to have any more cosmetic surgery on her face.
