Prosecuted for taking daughter on holiday during term
When Jackie Turner took her nine-year-old daughter, Hazel, out of school in term time for a three week backpacking holiday around Europe they were looking forward to a fun packed educational journey. Visiting Roman history museums, the place where the Archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot, and sites of the Bosnian war.
She was expecting a fine, but what they were not expecting was a court summons to attend magistrates court for failing to ensure Hazel attended 'regularly' at school.
Jackie now faces fines of £2,500 and potentially a three month jail sentence if convicted of the offence.
