Stranded dolphin washed up on beach dies
A dolphin which became beached in Brean has had to be put down after desperate attempts to try and save it.
The male common dolphin was spotted in difficulties in the surf and lifeguards from nearby Burnham-on-Sea rushed to its rescue.
But, despite their best efforts the malnourished and weak mammal had to be put down.
The dolphin was first spotted at nearby Berrow a few days ago - but had been guided out to deep water by lifeguards.
After swimming away it was spotted again in Brean, where it became washed up on the shore.
