The police say they've made important discoveries while searching the last known address of Sally Ann John, who went missing in Swindon 20 years ago.

They've spent three days investigating the flat, and now that this has finished, are looking to further examine several items found. No details have been released about what exactly these items are.

Sally Ann was 23 when she went missing after a night out in the town in September 1995. Last year the inquiry into her disappearance was reclassified as a murder investigation.

"This may have been a 'cold case' but forensic technology and investigative policing has moved on dramatically and I will ensure that we use every possible tool available to us to identify those responsible for Sally Ann's death. The search at this location may have ended but we are following a number of new lines of enquiry and I am positive that we are now closer to discovering the truth."
