Injured veterans to row to Isles of Scilly

A group of injured veterans are helping to build a pilot gig boat, which they plan to row 28 miles to the Isles of Scilly.

The former serviceman who are all supported by the charity Help for Heroes, are crafting the boat at the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.

They're being given a chance to get a woodworking qualification during the project.

Once the gig boat is complete, they plan to row it from Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly in May. A team from Help for Heroes will then use it to compete in the World Pilot Gig Championships which is held on the islands.

"It's a sense of achievement, it's a sense of courage because you're out on the sea, you're battling against the elements, and also you're rowing a boat you've built yourself and then also you're working as a team again."
