Equine crisis: Horses and donkeys being abandoned and exploited
The number of horses and donkeys being abused and neglected is on the rise, according to RSPCA.
They say we are currently in the middle of an equine crisis in the UK.
Last year the RSPCA received 297 complaints related to the equine crisis in Somerset alone, with nearly 1,000 more complaints across the region.
This issue is often due to lack of funds for veterinary treatment or neglect through poor knowledge.
The sudden influx of horses and donkeys going into care has resulted in costing the RSPCA three million pounds annually, which is a dramatic rise on previous years.
The RSPCA is focussing on its prevention messages hoping with the education of owners it will make a difference long-term.
