Vulnerable young people in Bristol facing uncertain future after funding cuts
Vulnerable young people in Bristol could be facing a future without vital support because of huge funding cuts.
Almost £100,000 was recently spent updating an adventure playground in Lockleaze and yet the swings lie still, the rope bridges untouched.
Opened in 1973 by John Cleese The Vench is held dear by many and its story was even transformed into a play at the Bristol Old Vic in 2017.
Bristol City Council funding cuts have meant that there is no money to pay for facilities for children under the age of 11.
Residents in nearby Southmead and St Pauls are also trying to keep play spaces open too.
£9 million is being spent by the city council over the next three years but for older children.
The council say they will reopen the playground for a few hours a couple of days a week but the community wants more than that.
