Schoolchildren join the campaign to save local libraries

Children dressed in the World Book Day costumes have staged a protest against the possible closure of their library in Somerset.

There's been a public library in Street for more than 130 years but now it's under threat as one of 22 which may close because of local council cuts.

A hundred schoolchildren - turned library campaigners have now added their voice to the consultation which the council is running.

The local authority says it doesn't want to close any libraries but to lend out books, it needs to balance the books.

That's why its asking people's opinions over changes to 22 of its 34 libraries.
