Huge fire engulfs scrapyard overnight

Firefighters from stations across Dorset and Wiltshire have been tackling a huge blaze at a scrapyard in Swindon.

The local yard is based just off Gipsy Lane in Swindon.

Swindon Fire Station were confronted with a roaring fire when they got on the site. Flames were said to have been seen from some distance away.

The blaze is believed to have started in the early hours of Saturday (15 April) morning.

Crews from across Swindon and Wiltshire were deployed to the scene, as well firefighters from as far as Oxfordshire.

Crews are warning for local residents to keep their windows shut.

The cause of the fire is as yet not known.
