A young mother is fighting against 'pram snobbery'

A mother from Pensilva in Cornwall has sparked a national debate about baby buggies after complaining on social media about what she calls "pram snobbery".

Gylisa Jayne said that when she was pregnant all she wanted was a simple baby carrier with wheels. But she soon discovered that some prams cost more than second-hand cars.

The 24-year-old said she suffered from "pram envy" when she had her first child and that she couldn't afford an expensive buggy.

Instead the young mum is having to make use of second-hand alternatives. But she is now fighting back against parents who use prams as "status symbols".

Julie Eales who runs a pram shop in Plymouth, says there are cheaper options available for parents on a budget, with some strollers starting at around the £50 price tag. She also says the more expensive prams hold their value and can be sold on second hand.
