Vandalised sleigh scene mended in time for Christmas

A Christmas display set up in the shadow of Wells Cathedral is back on show after it was ruined by drunken revellers.

Thousands of pounds of damage was caused to the alpine snow scene at the Swan Hotel early on Sunday, 18th December. One of the steps into the antique German snow sleigh was snapped off and the ornamental display reindeer were broken with their legs smashed to pieces.

The hotel creates the display for the community every year and staff were heart-broken to discover the mess. The General Manager urged those responsible to give themselves up so they didn't have to go to the police.

The Swan Hotel in Wells worked hard to repair the display and reports that Rudolf is now fully recovered and is back on the front terrace. Staff say he's fit and ready for his public over Christmas.

The four persons responsible for the damage came forward and have made personal apologies and are each making a donation to the hotel's chosen charities; Heads Up and Macmillan Cancer Support.
